Dear John,

I walked down to Tiffany's today for lunch with Esther and Shirley, and had a lovely time. It was the first time I've been there since you died, and it felt good to be back. They've changed to a different salsa that's very good and hot. The taco salad is terrific. After lunch Shirley dropped me off downtown at the hardware store, and I walked home with a bottle of lamp oil and some new clothesline.
In the world of sports, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that Duke lost and won't go to the Final Four. The good news is that today was Opening Day and the Cubs won. And that's not an April Fool joke. They beat the Pirates, which isn't usually the hardest thing in the world to do, but last year it was way too hard for the Cubs. I'm hoping for better things this year. I'll try watching a game and see how it goes. I still haven't been able to watch any sports without you, but that has to end sometime, doesn't it? It really does, doesn't it?
I'm off to bed - tomorrow's a work day. I love you great whole bunches,
Joan.
